Our TICA/CFA Registration

5 min read

We are a cattery registered with both TICA and CFA. Recently, we transferred most of our breeding cats' registrations from CFA to TICA because maintaining registrations with two different organizations can be more complicated and time-consuming. As a result, we have decided to focus primarily on TICA going forward.

You can find our cattery information on TICA's official website here:

Please also note that, following requests from many of our customers, we began paying for advertising through TICA in the spring of 2026 to have our cattery featured on its cat show page.

Previously, our cattery was listed in TICA's cattery directory, but we did not pay for additional advertising on its show page. As a result, some customers who searched for us on the show page were unable to find our cattery and consequently questioned whether our TICA registration was genuine. To avoid further confusion and make our information more accessible to prospective families, we decided to invest in paid advertising on TICA's show page starting in the spring of 2026, rather than relying solely on our listing in the cattery catelogue directory.

We hope this clarification helps our customers better understand the difference between a cattery's official registration listing and its paid advertising presence on TICA's show page.

Regarding TICA registration certificates for our kittens, these must be applied for individually through our TICA account under the names of their registered parents. TICA charges registration fees, so obtaining a TICA certificate is not automatically included in every kitten's adoption package.

If you would like a TICA registration certificate for your kitten, please let us know as early as possible so that we can submit the application and have the documentation prepared for you.

Please note that all our kittens are registered for pet ownership by default. Registration with breeding rights is reserved for approved professional breeders and is subject to our authorization and the applicable registration requirements.

Thank you for your understanding. We are always happy to clarify any questions regarding our cattery registration, our kittens' pedigrees, or TICA registration procedures.

Understanding the Difference Between a TICA-Registered Cattery and TICA-Registered Cats

Many people are confused about the difference between being a TICA-registered cattery and owning TICA-registered cats. Although these two concepts are related, they are entirely different things, and understanding the distinction is important when evaluating a professional breeding program.

1. Registering a Cattery with TICA Is Only the Beginning

If you want to establish a professional cattery, one of the steps you may take is to register your cattery with The International Cat Association (TICA). You can create an account, submit an application, pay the applicable fees, and obtain cattery registration if your application is approved.

However, registering a cattery does not automatically mean that you own any TICA-registered cats, nor does it mean that your breeding cats have exceptional pedigrees or come from carefully selected bloodlines.

In other words, cattery registration identifies your cattery within the organization; it does not, by itself, establish the registration status, pedigree, or breeding quality of your individual cats.

You cannot simply acquire an unregistered cat, keep it in your cattery, and call it a TICA-registered cat. The registration status of each individual cat must be established separately.

2. Building a Breeding Program Requires Carefully Selected Breeding Cats

The more important step in developing a serious breeding program is acquiring suitable breeding cats from reputable, established breeders.

Responsible breeders may carefully evaluate prospective buyers before placing a cat with breeding rights. Depending on their own policies, they may review the applicant's cattery, breeding experience, facilities, plans, and qualifications before deciding whether to entrust one of their breeding cats to another program.

When a breeder approves such a placement, the cat may come from generations of carefully selected bloodlines developed by established catteries around the world. Our breeding cats are selected very carefully from the best reputational ragdoll catteries in Italy, germany and Poland, and the first generations not only are registered, but also own EU passports with themselves.

However, an important distinction must be understood: a cat can have a legitimate pedigree and be registered with a recognized feline association without being registered with TICA specifically. For example, a cat may originally be registered with CFA or FIFe.

Therefore, acquiring a pedigreed breeding cat and obtaining TICA registration for that individual cat are two separate steps.

3. Transferring a Breeding Cat's Registration to TICA

If a breeding cat is registered with another recognized feline association, its registration may be eligible for transfer to TICA, subject to TICA's applicable rules, documentation requirements, and approval process.

The necessary paperwork and authorization from the relevant parties must be completed as required. The original breeder's cooperation may also be necessary, depending on the cat's registration documents and the circumstances of the transfer.

If the transfer is approved and completed, the individual cat can then be registered with TICA in accordance with the applicable rules.

Its eligible offspring may subsequently qualify for TICA registration based on their parents' registration status, pedigree documentation, and the association's requirements.

This is how we as professional breeder gradually build a program consisting of individually registered breeding cats and produce kittens with documented pedigrees through successive generations.

4. Our Philosophy at Royal Cattery Institute

At Royal Cattery Institute, we believe that the foundation of a serious breeding program lies in the quality of its breeding cats, the careful selection of bloodlines, and a long-term commitment to preserving the traditional Ragdoll's desirable appearance, temperament, and health.

Registering a cattery with TICA is a relatively straightforward administrative step compared with the years of experience, research, investment, and careful selection involved in building a responsible breeding program.

The real value lies not simply in having a registered cattery, but in the individual cats behind the program: their documented pedigrees, their origins, their characteristics, and the thoughtful breeding decisions about how to optimize the kittens from all aspects generations by generations.

For this reason, when evaluating our cattery, we encourage prospective families to look beyond cattery registration alone and learn about our actual breeding cats, their backgrounds, and the principles that guide our breeding program.

We apply exactly the same philosophy when evaluating other catteries that wish to acquire a breeding cat with breeding rights from us. We look beyond registration certificates and carefully consider the breeder's experience, breeding philosophy, facilities, and commitment to responsible breeding before deciding whether to entrust one of our valuable breeding cats to their program.

We believe that quality breeding cats should be placed in responsible, professional catteries where their outstanding bloodlines, desirable characteristics, and carefully selected genetics can be preserved and passed on through future generations. This is how a valuable breeding line can be developed thoughtfully and responsibly over time, rather than being passed into unstructured breeding practices that may compromise the consistency and integrity of the bloodline.

For us, granting breeding rights is not simply a transaction. It is a responsibility to the generations of Ragdolls that came before and those that will follow. We want our breeding cats to continue contributing to well-managed breeding programs that share our commitment to preserving the traditional Ragdoll's quality, health, and wonderful temperament for generations to come.
