Cardiology Screen on HCM VS Feline Genetic Test

Cat's Health is the prior concern of our cattery. We have carefully discussed with our veterinarian have discussed screening for HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) with a veterinary cardiologist, as we had inquired about this some time ago.

The reality is that screening can only identify HCM if signs of the condition are detectable at the time of the examination. Plus in Montreal, there are only two veterinary cardiologists, and the waiting list is approximately six months, making it difficult and impractical to arrange this screening in a timely manner.

Therefore we tried to find out another solution which is Genetic test recently. So regarding the parents’ genetic testing results, the results should be available soon. Genetic kit testing is a new health initiative that we recently started implementing, as many of our families have expressed interest in it as well.

We have confidence on the health condition of our kittens/cats, as all of our cats are registered with Vet et Nous in Saint-Laurent, where we maintain comprehensive veterinary records, including health information from previous generations. To date, we have not identified any genetic health issues in our breeding cats. Based on their health history and available family background, our veterinarians have not identified any risks of genetic health concerns within our breeding program. We selected the best bloodlines from the most excellent European ragdoll catteries, which is the primal guarantee of our ragdoll cats' health. No one cat is from local family breeding background.

In addition, we provide a 3-year genetic health contract as part of our adoption agreement, offering our families additional protection and peace of mind when welcoming one of our kittens into their home.

Please be aware that our breeding program focuses not only on disease prevention and preserving the outstanding appearance and wonderful temperament of traditional purebred Ragdolls, but also on educating and supporting our families throughout their cats’ growth and development.

We believe that raising a healthy, beautiful Ragdoll requires more than excellent genetics. Proper nutrition, appropriate daily supplements, and a well-informed approach to feline care all play important roles in supporting a kitten’s healthy development and overall well-being.

To support this philosophy, we even established our own pet supply store in Montreal, allowing us to carefully select and offer outstanding feline nutrition and care products from leading brands around the world. Our goal is to help our Ragdolls and their families benefit from high-quality products that we believe are well suited to their needs.

Each of our new kitten families receives a generous starter kit prepared with products from our store. In addition to providing practical essentials, the starter kit introduces families to carefully selected food, supplements, and other premium products, allowing them to become familiar with different brands and learn about our approach to Ragdoll nutrition and daily care.

We also provide a comprehensive handbook that we have written word by word for our customers. It offers practical guidance on raising and caring for purebred Ragdoll kittens and cats, including feeding recommendations, nutritional considerations, daily care routines, and other important aspects of responsible cat ownership. The handbook is designed to work together with the food samples and products included in the starter kit, helping families understand not only what we recommend, but also how to incorporate these products into their kittens’ daily routines.

Because traditional purebred Ragdolls are a slow-maturing, large breed, their nutritional needs can be different from those of many other cats. For this reason, we have developed a carefully considered feeding approach based on our many years of experience raising purebred Ragdolls.

Our ultimate goal is to help every family develop a deeper understanding of proper Ragdoll care, make informed nutritional choices, and provide an environment that supports their kitten’s healthy growth, strong condition, and overall well-being. We want our customers to feel confident and well supported, not only when they first welcome their kitten home, but throughout the many years they share together.
